Return to the Blogosphere, World of Warcraft, Decrepit Birth, Relationships

So it's been four months since I last blogged anything. How could this happen? I'll tell you how: World of Warcraft. I've been playing WoW on and off for a few years and I picked it up again recently (about four months ago). It is a very well made game, very fun and good interaction between the developers and players, but it's just not for me. I wanted to compete in the player versus player aspect of the game with the best players in the world, and to do this, I would be able to do nothing else with my time. Between watching replay videos, practicing and reading strategies, I would have to be doing something WoW related at least 4-5 hours a day to keep up. I think the meta-game is fascinating, but there's just a lot I want to do and dropping WoW frees me up to do it. I still expect to pick up more videos games in the future (Starcraft 2, Diablo 3), but only play them casually.

So back to the blogosphere I've come, and with much to talk about. First and foremost, Sam Harris's third book, The Moral Landscape is due to come out October 5th, so you can expect a post about it a few days after. Additionally, he is going to be giving talks in New York City on October 5th and 7th at Cooper Union and the New York Society for Ethical Culture respectively. If you are in the area, I recommend you make room to attend at least one.

Decrepit Birth, the technical death metal band from California that blew my mind in 2008 with their second album Diminishing Between Worlds has put up a track from their upcoming album, Polarity, on their myspace. If you enjoyed DBW, ready another replacement because you're about to have your mind blown again. A quick related point: one of my best friends from college (who was the catalyst for my interest in metal) is coming to the city for a week long vacation. Coincidentally, another mutual friend is going to be in town with a little time to kill while here. She happens to play bass, he guitar and myself drums (sort of). I happen to have an electric guitar, bass guitar and drum set in my apartment, and a couple rehearsal rooms in the basement of the building. I can't promise anything, but who knows, a future blog post may link a video of Snow Covered Forest's first practice session. ;)

Over the last few months (while not playing WoW) I've spent a lot of time thinking about romantic relationships and I have some ideas to throw out there. I have yet to fully flesh out my ideas, but over the next few days I plan on doing just that, so stay tuned for a juicy post. I can almost guarantee you will disagree with me somewhere along the line so I am eager to write it up and get some feedback. Stay tuned! I promise some good stuff is on the way.
